Pain Management

Pain is one of the most feared aspects associated with the diagnosis of cancer and about 70 percent of patients will experience pain of some degree during the course of their illness. However, pain can be controlled greater than 90 percent of the time by the use of appropriate medications, procedures to block the transmission of pain and other established pain management techniques.

In addition to your primary physician and oncologist, Shore Health System's Pain Team, staffed by physicians and nurses with advanced training in pain management, is available for consultation 24 hours a day. An outpatient Pain Clinic is also available for patients with more complex pain problems.
