Some facts about colon cancer:
Cancer of the colon is a disease in which cancerous cells develop in the tissues of the colon. Although colon cancer is among the most common forms of cancer, the number of new cases and the number of deaths attributed to the disease have declined in recent years due to improved screening and diagnostic techniques.
Colon cancer can occur in persons of any age, but it is most common in those over the age of fifty. If the cancer is detected early, more than 90% of patients survive five years or more. Know your risk and get screened!
Endoscopic Procedures
- Upper Endoscopy (EGD) is used for the detection and early treatment of esophageal, stomach, and small intestinal disorders.
- Colonoscopy is used for the detection and early treatment of polyps, diverticulosis, and colon cancer.
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) involves the visualization of the pancreatic and biliary ducts and offers the ability to remove gall stones from the common bile duct and treat strictures without surgery.
Non-Endoscopic Procedures
- Breath Hydrogen Test for the detection of milk sugar intolerance.
- Esophageal Motility and/or 24-Hour pH Monitor Test to enable the diagnoses and treatment of complaints of chest pain, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, and/or food sticking.
