In 1982, the Memorial Hospital at Easton was in the midst of a $13 million expansion, the most costly and expansive in the hospital’s 75-year history. Hospital administrators, board members and medical staff were excited about the possibilities this expansion offered to the community and they were concerned about taking on such exorbitant debt.
According to W. Moorhead Vermilye, who served as President of the Memorial Hospital Board of Directors from 1974 to 1978 and again in 1980, the Memorial Hospital Foundation was set up “strictly to solicit, accept and invest gifts and bequests. The goal of the Foundation was to ensure and preserve the medical progress, financial integrity and local support needed to provide access to high quality health care for our community for years to come.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Memorial Hospital Foundation is designed to be the fundraising arm of the UM Shore Medical Center at Easton and all of its ancillary healthcare programs and services. Many of the programs, services, technologies and facilities that we offer today would be impossible without the added financial resources given to the Foundation by our family members, friends and neighbors.
The Memorial Hospital Foundation has evolved into a strong organization with sophisticated philanthropic programs. Gifts made to the Foundation allow us to expand and enhance patient care in the face of costly and ever-changing medical and technological developments.
All contributions, large and small, are utilized to their fullest. The Memorial Hospital Foundation team of professionals raises protects and distributes funds that improve health care for you, your family and friends.
