See What Our Patients Are Saying
Patient Gives MHE ED an A-plus
A patient who came to the MHE through the ED gave high marks to the emergency services and surgical team members who provided care. Here is an expert from the patient's emailed note:
"I was sent to the emergency room for a CT scan after some testing done at my physician's office. My primary was suspicious of appendicitis. This was my first time being in the new wing. Wow! Not only does the facility look wonderful...the entire experience gave me the feeling I was in a first class hotel! The staff from clerical to nursing to ultimately my surgeon's team (Dr. Stitely) were prompt, professional, helpful and friendly. I know that the surgical team had already put in a long day, yet they were concerned for me and were ready to stay as long as needed. I thank you for such great care. The emergency room team gets an A++ from me."
Patient Appreciates Joint Replacement Center
A patient who had knee replacement surgery at MHE wrote a letter to express appreciation for the care she received. A retired nurse, she praised her caregivers, saying,"The Joint Replacement Center is ideal! It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the creation and running of this unit. But, most of all the nursing staff chosen to work in this unit are just the best! I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Laura O’Reilly, RN and Laura Gaffney, RN. The nursing care these two nurses provided me was just super, caring and compassionate. Pamela Turner, RN, was not assigned to care for me as much as the other nurses but when she was I felt that I was in good hands. Margaret (Maggie) Buss, PT, was a pleasure to have as my physical therapist. She instilled in me the confidence I needed to perform the necessary exercises. All three nurse techs, Thelma, Judy and Lisa, were a pleasure to have taking care of my needs. They are truly well trained care providers. If joint replacement was an Olympic event they would all be Gold Medal winners!"
Patient Appreciates DGH Experience
In a letter to Joe Ross, a patient expressed appreciation for the exceptional care she received from Laura Jones, a member of the DGH Registration staff. The patient wrote, "While all of the staff (at DGH) was courteous and professional, one individual was particularly memorable. Ms Jones called me to pre-register for the procedure and was there to greet me at Outpatient Registration. She was friendly, cheerful and efficient, qualities which are especially appreciated prior to surgery. Dorchester General is fortunate to have Ms. Jones a member of its staff."
A Patient Says THANKS!
After a three-week stay at Memorial Hospital, a patient took time to let
Joe Ross know that he received first rate care. The excerpt from his
letter demonstrates that our patients notice when we live up to our
mission of Exceptional Care, Every Day.
Having spent three weeks in the hospital, I have to tell you how
impressed I am with it. The care I received was wonderful and the whole
experience was good. I have nothing but praise for you and your staff.
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Family Pleased by ER Experience
Parents whose son was treated in the MHE Emergency Department took time
to express their thanks for the care they received during a recent
health crisis. This excerpt from their email reminds us that patient
appreciate the care we offer every day.
I wanted to inform you of the wonderful treatment we received from your
ER. Our son had a severe break to his wrist/arm from a lacrosse injury
in Milford, DE and had to be transferred from Milford's hospital to
Easton because they had no orthopedic [physician] on call there. He was
treated immediately in your ER and welcomed by your orthopedic on call,
Dr. Mason, when we arrived around midnight.
We were very pleased with the care he received by his nurse, Stevie
(Steve) that evening. She was extremely efficient and made us feel at
ease. Everything was handled promptly including the discharge. Nurse
Steve even escorted us right to our car and seated him in the front seat
for me. Your staff made a very uncomfortable situation as comfortable as
possible and we appreciate the care and attention shown to us that
evening!
Patient Sends Glowing Thanks
The wife of a patient who was nearing the end of a six-week stay at
Memorial Hospital told Joe Ross how much she and her husband valued the
care they were receiving. In this excerpt from her letter, she shines a
spotlight on many of the people who demonstrated our commitment to CARE
- community, attitude, respect, excellence.
"During [my husband's hospital stay], we have encountered quite a number
of nurses and assistants. However, we need you to know that Elexis
Howard has been outstanding! She is genuinely kind, patient, and most of
all, compassionate. [My husband] is more than tired and frustrated from
being in the hospital for such a long time, but when Elexis shows up and
starts talking to him, his face brightens and his anger melts away.
Elexis is truly an asset to your hospital.
We want to thank the following for showing CARE: Carla Insley, Molly
Johnson, Nancy Harding, Donna Martin, Jane Barbee, Amy Reeside, Diann
Harris, Renee Windsor, Dawn Faulkner, Pat Hughes, Lee Hubbard, Loretta
Norden, Maryanna [no last name given]. Three who consistently cared for
[my husband] with outstanding professionalism and concern were Kathy
Newton, Terry Wheatley and Beverly Anders. They always went above and
beyond, not to just the patient but the entire family."
Kudos to the Digestive Health Center Staff
In a note to Marcia Nield, BSN, RN, FNE-A, Clinical Coordinator for the Digestive Health Center, a patient expresses appreciation to Michael Fisher, MD, and the staff. The patient writes, "I want to thank you all for the handling of my colonoscopy. I felt as though I was being treated as the only patient there. Everyone was exceedingly kind, thoughtful and low key. Except for the previous day's 'preparation,' the procedure was, what one of my grandchildren would say, 'a piece of cake.' Thank you for your expertise, and everyone for their cheerful, warm and competent care."
DGH Emergency Department Earns Thanks
When someone takes the time to write a "Thank You" note, you know that
they have had a memorable experience. Two notes received by the DGH ED
staff reminded them that the care with which they do their work everyday
makes a difference.
One family says, "Thank you all for the sensitivity and compassion that
was shown to my daughter. Your professionalism and kindness will never
be forgotten. It is certainly apparent that [our daughter] received
excellent medical care after her accident."
Another patient writes, "Thanks to everyone who made my unexpected trip
to the emergency room and admission to the hospital a lot easier. You
were all patient with me and showed lots of TLC. It was all greatly
appreciated."
Exceptional Care in the ED
May times patients don't remember a nurse's name. But they always
remember when they receive exceptional care.
Recently, Patti Willis, Vice President of Corporate Communications,
received a voicemail message from a patient who was had been treated in
the MHE ED. According to her message, the patient and her husband
visited the ED and Express Care several times over a recent weekend.
They were particularly impressed with the care of a nurse they referred
to as "Mrs. Smith." Chris Mitchell, Director of Outpatient and Emergency
services for SHS, confirmed that the nurse was Mary Ann Smith, RN.
Thanks, Mary Ann, for living up to our mission of Exceptional Care,
Every Day.
